about the author
Albert Sidney Cross was born on the 9th November 1914. He enlisted at the age of 16 on the 12th May 1931 and joined the 7th Battalion, Essex Regiment (TA).
In 1935 he was transferred into a Royal Artillery Anti-Aircraft role, in what was to become the 59th Regiment HAA, and became a member of 167 Battery.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Albert was Hon. Secretary & Treasurer of the Eagle and Gun Regimental Association. He also edited and produced the annual correspondence (News Letter) and compiled a short history of the Regiment during the early 1990s, with help from fellow members, and a foreword written by Lieutenant Colonel T.W.Miller-Jones O.B.E. T.D.
I don't know who the intended audience was, but probably just the family and friends of ex-servicemen from the regiment.
Each printed copy is numbered (I have copy No.20 and copy No.24, in addition to a draft copy, and various hand written contributions by my dad).
I don't believe this work has ever appeared in a published book.
Albert lived in West Mersea, on Mersea Island in Essex. He died in October 1993.
